There are ] SO MANY beautiful venues and locations to get married in Vancouver, BC that it was difficult to make this list. The following list reflects my favourite venues to shoot at, purely from a photography perspective. For me, an ideal wedding takes place at the same location – ceremony, portraits and reception on the same grounds. Without travel time, I have more time to shoot.
Check out Part One – read about some very unique locations.
Best wedding locations in Vancouver, BC for Photographers
Hycroft Manor
The University Women’s Club of Vancouver’s Hycroft Manor is one of my favourite places to shoot because of the classic and romantic shooting locations. There are staircases that look centuries old, romanesque gardens, 50 foot high ivy covered columns and a multi-wing traditionally decorated house to shoot throughout – each room has it’s own style and unique decorations. UBC Botanical Gardens
UBC Botanical Gardens features a thick green covered arbour that wedding guests can enjoy dinner under. An adjourning grassy area is perfect for the dance floor, ceremony and rain tent. The photographer has use of the gardens for the wedding photos, including the lush tropical areas. I really like the walk into the reception and ceremony area – the guests walk through the Asian gardens and through a moon gate tunnel into the BC rainforest. Also the gardens have golf carts to help you bring all your lighting equipment. Recent wedding at UBC Botanical Gardens: https://www.carolinephotography.ca/ubc-botanical-garden-wedding/
Rowenas Inn on the Lake
One of my favourite venues… Rowena’s Inn on the Lake gives guests and family members a relaxing vacation on a peaceful golf course. The heritage house had many classic rooms to shoot in and the guest got to mingle by the pool with mountains in the distance.
Grouse Mountain
Grouse Mountain is the perfect wedding venue for all the hikers and Grouse Grinders out there that met each other through an outdoor meetup. The background for the wedding has the gondola, mountains and city and the photo opportunities and locations are endless. I love Grouse Mountain for weddings because the guests get to watch the unbelievable sunset during dinner and speeches. Also, the unique transportation up the gondola is pretty spectacular as well!
Backyard Weddings
My favourite weddings are backyard weddings. I know some venues aren’t available to the public, however there are some really beautiful houses on AirBNB available for smaller weddings. I like backyard weddings because it reminds me of my own families weddings… My mom spends hours making sure the backyard garden is pretty, all the guys in the family come over and help put up the tent and lights and decorations and we sit down to a catered BBQ with a homemade cake for dessert, dancing and celebrating under the open night sky. It’s really unique to have a location that is personal to the wedding couple, and I also love it when the ceremony and reception take place in one location.
The wedding shown in the photos is in a heritage house in South Granville and the photos were done around the neighbourhood.
